Starting any new hobby can seem daunting, but rest assured we're a friendly lot and always happy to welcome new people.

The first step is to fill out the contact form to let us know you want to join (click on "contact us" above right) and we will answer any questions you have.

Once that's sorted, you just need to show up.  We'll let you know when the next session will be.  We'll find a game for you to join.  It's up to you if you just want to watch to start with, or if you want to join in right away.   Other players in your game can help you to create a character, or if you already have your character created, that's great too.

Role Playing Games like D&D can seem really complicated, but don't worry!  Everyone starts somewhere and you'll be put in a game where there's others that can help you with things like character creation and the mechanics of the game.  We're a friendly and inclusive club and our aim is to have fun.  We can also answer any questions you have.

Some common questions and answers:

Do you have to be good at acting to be good at role playing games?  No.  Many players like to role play as their charcaters, and good acting skills can help, but this is not compulsory.  You can just say what action your character is doing and what they are saying.  How much you want to get into doing different voices and other acting skills is entirely up to you.  The only thing you really need is imagination - the DM will describe the world and the situation you're facing, and you just need to decide what your character's going to try to do.

Do you need to be good at maths, what with all the different dice?  Also no.  Rolling a dice can decide how well your character succeeds at what they're trying to do, and there's a bit of very simple plussing and minusing as your character's abilities change the outcome, but you'll quickly get the hang of this and other players can help you figure it out as it can seem complicated to start with.

Do I need my own dice?  No.  You'll be able to borrow a set of dice, but of course if you find that D&D is for you, you'll want to buy your own dice.  There are various places you can buy a basic set of D&D dice for around £6-£10.  And there are all kinds of fancy sets of dice that might cost a bit more.

Is D&D expensive?  It's as expensive as you want it to be.  For the basics, you're looking club subs and a basic dice set.  At the other end of the scale there's a vast array of D&D books, accessories, fancy dice, character minis and all kinds of interesting and unusual D&D things.

What if I don't like the adventure at my allocated table?  If there are any issues or difficulties, speak to Helen or Tom as they are very good at sorting things out.  Different DMs have different styles so it might be that you fit in better with a different table.

We hope that you'll join us!
